Guide updated · long-form planning notes — verify live conditions with NPWS
Longer notes for planning a visit: boats and tides on the coastal walk, how camping fees sit beside vehicle entry, whale season and 4WD access. Always verify track conditions, closures and safety with NSW National Parks before you travel.
How to use these: coastal-walk article before you book boats · 4WD article before Pebbly · wildlife / Country pieces for behaviour. Pair with a printable itinerary when you want a day shape.

Best for: People booking a 4–5 day walk for the first time
Practical planning for the 65 km Angourie–Red Rock walk: boats, tides, camps, water, alerts, packing and the Wooli finish if Corindi cannot be crossed.
Official walk: 65 km one-way, 4–5 days, Grade 4, start Angourie Surfing Reserve, finish Red Rock, best north to south.
Book NPWS camps and the Sandon + Wooli boats first. There is no commercial boat at Red Rock / Corindi.
Rock platforms at low tide only. Extra food if swell closes beaches.
Best for: Winter visitors with binoculars and patience
Where official park pages send you for humpbacks — Red Cliffs lookout, Brooms Head and Wilsons Headland — and how to watch without standing on unstable rock.
Park overview: winter whale watching from Red Cliffs lookout and Brooms Head (May–September on that page).
Wilsons Headland track page: best whale time May–October. Treat it as a window and verify.
Unstable cliffs at Lake Arragan / Red Cliff — watch from a safe setback, never the edge.
Best for: 4WD campers who will read the official campground page
The southern Yuraygir Pebbly Beach is not the Murramarang one. High-clearance 4WD, beach driving and a low-tide creek crossing — or stay at Station Creek.
Official name: Pebbly Beach campground - Yuraygir National Park.
Planning baseline: high-clearance 4WD, unsealed road, dune, beach, low-tide only via Bacoongerie Road.
Station Creek is the 2WD-typical southern neighbour. McPhillips Road has logging trucks (no end date).
Best for: Visitors who want to behave well without invented culture copy
Yuraygir spans Yaegl Country in the north and Gumbaynggirr Country in the south. What this unofficial guide will and will not say — and how to behave on the walk.
Traditional Country: Yaegl people (north) and Gumbaynggirr people (south) — from official NPWS acknowledgements.
This site does not add stories, names or unpublished sites beyond official acknowledgements.
Stay on tracks, leave things in place, and use official channels for cultural tours.
Best for: First-timers who circled three pins on a map
Yuraygir is three road systems split by rivers — not one loop. Why stacking northern cliffs, Wilsons Headland and Pebbly 4WD in a single calendar day fails, and what to do instead.
Rivers split the park into northern, central and southern road systems. There is no vehicle ferry.
Wilsons Headland and Pebbly are not a morning-and-afternoon pair.
Pick one zone and one primary effort. Overnight if you want a second zone.
Best for: Groups booking the 65 km walk for the first time
The Yuraygir coastal walk has no commercial boat at Red Rock / Corindi. Why finishing at Wooli is success, not failure — and what to book before you leave Angourie.
Official: no commercial boat at Corindi / Red Rock. Wooli River Boat Hire is the southern commercial crossing.
Sandon has a planning number on the river-crossing alert; one track page still disagrees — confirm with Grafton.
Incoming tide is the official safer window. Extra food is official advice.
